Ben was born and raised in the DC suburbs of Northern Virginia. After moving to the Charlotte area in 2012 to work in the international trade industry, he became disillusioned by the 9-5 office work lifestyle. Having been an athlete growing up, he noticed his health declining and waist circumference growing with the sedentary lifestyle. Becoming more intentional with his diet and nutrition, he began to learn of the differences between conventional agriculture and organic agriculture. One night, while pondering the direction he wanted his life to go, the epiphany struck that he could try farming and that that was a viable means of making a living in this country. He began volunteering with area farmers while continuing to work in the office to save money to be able to break away and start his own farming business. He signed a lease and began Street Fare Farm in 2015 at the Elma C. Lomax Incubator Farm in Concord, and quit his day job to farm full time in 2016.
Alisha is from Greenville, SC, and has a background in social work. She founded The Bulb Mobile Markets because she saw a disparity in the quality of food that was accessible to the people she was working with, and wanted to be able to provide a resource for those who have limitations in their access to fresh, local food, while also supporting the small businesses that grow and provide that food.
Ben and Alisha married in 2020 and are farming on 1.5 acres in Concord, NC with their two children, Danny and Amelia. Our goal is to provide the highest quality and most nutritionally dense food that we can muster from this little piece of creation.
