Wellness goals certainly overlap with nutrition but expands to also include fitness, exercise, and building social connections. A 2017-2018 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Health Department study revealed that in tandem with the chronic diseases reported, nearly 20% of our population reported no exercise, with the percentage increasing to 26% at lower income levels.

Our tagline, Our Community Table, is based on providing a rich connectivity to the people that make up our community. Charlotte’s “Leading on Opportunity” (2017) study noted that a key deficit was the ability to build social capital among the community at large – we don’t have enough places that cause us to come together around shared goals. Uptown Farmers Market desires to be that place of community that brings people together around common goals defined in our mission statement, particularly related to supporting local farms, nutrition education and wellness, and food insecurity. We encourage you to bring your walking, cycling, or running group Uptown to exercise and then grab breakfast, listen to live music, and shop at the Market!

Cycling and Walking to the Market:
Our central location invites a bike ride or a stroll to the market. We are just two blocks away from the bus and light rail center city station. We’re thrilled to see so many cyclists ride to the market from their neighborhoods nearby. The City of Charlotte will celebrate the opening of the amazing Uptown CycleLink in spring 2022. We now have protected bike lanes right beside the Market so come and try them out!

Pet Friendly:
If you live Uptown and have a dog, Saturday morning is your most relaxing time to take your loyal friend for a walk. We welcome well-behaved dogs on a leash and want to encourage those walks to the Market. Our market footprint provides ample room to accommodate pets.

Music:
We are thrilled to partner with Communities in Concert to provide live music every week by local musicians. Stay and linger awhile and enjoy!

Competitions:
We’ve learned about some very innovative challenges in recent years to try and encourage adults to improve their diet and exercise through group competitions. We all love a good challenge! We look forward to developing encouraging market challenges as we all work toward solid nutrition goals.

On-site Health Evaluations:
We look forward to partnering with nutritionists/healthcare providers to do free evaluations at the market and provide educational information to help control blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc., all chronic diseases that currently affect our community.
